what's new...
Over the last decade Butchers Coppice has changed beyond recognition.
We've improved our indoor accommodation centres, to bring them up to the highest standards and invested in new adventurous activities for young people of all ages.
We've improved the facilities on site, including the creation of one of the best toilet and shower facilities of any campsite in the country, and invested in security measures, including a high quality digital CCTV system, to protect the site and our visitors.
Butchers Coppice is owned by Bournemouth Scouts and operated entirely by voluntary staff - all of the profits from the site are put back in to improving the activities and facilities.
Butchers Coppice is now one of the best activity centres in the area - but don't just take our word for it - check out what our visitors had to say!
among the most recent developments at the site...
we've opened our new crate stacking challenge - a brand new activity for the site, which will test and excite groups of all ages and abilities.
we've given the Dad Atkins Centre a facelift with a massive refurbishment... we've created two new toilet/shower rooms plus a third toilet, the Leader bedrooms have been plastered and painted and had new ceilings and flooring fitted, the corridors have been plastered and painted with new ceilings and flooring fitted, we've added new windows to the Leader bedrooms and the main hall plus a new glass front door, we've fitted a new suspended ceiling in the main hall, sanded down and re-sealed the block wood flooring and painting the walls in the main hall... we've also had a new roof fitted, so you won't recognise it!
we've opened our new wildlife garden thanks to BBC Breathing Places and BBC Radio Solent - come and see where we hope hundreds of insects, birds, plants and animals will soon call home!
we've refurbished our climbing complex... the new look complex now includes a 33ft traditional climbing wall, a new auto-belay simulated rock climbing wall and two abseiling walls; a 15ft beginners wall and a 33ft wall. In addition to the climbing and abseiling walls, the climbing complex is also surrounded by a 117ft (across) bouldering or traversing wall. The climbing wall has various routes, for all ages and abilities, including a step and overhang. The tower has a permanent internal staircase, providing easy access to the top.
what's next...
Bournemouth Scouts are creating a new Museum of Bournemouth Scouting, bringing together a collection of Scouting memorabilia from keen collectors past and present - we hope the new museum will be open to visitors later in 2010
we want to bring high ropes to Butchers Coppice... we hope our new high ropes course will host a number of challenges including Jacob's Ladder, the High All-Aboard, the Leap of Faith and the Gladiator Challenge - we hope our new high ropes course will be in operation ready for the summer of 2011
looking to the future...
we want to create a new multi-purpose activity centre, creating a second indoor archery or air rifle shooting range and skittle alley - we hope the new activity centre will be operational in 2011/2012
Bournemouth Scouts are creating a new Explorer Scout Centre, principally for local Explorer Scouts - the new centre will offer a third indoor accommodation centre on site, which will be ideal for smaller groups visiting Butchers Coppice - we hope the new centre will opened in 2011/2012
